Egg|Plant Urban Farm Supply

This place is in an amazing asset to the Twin Cities. It’s one of the few places you can get a variety of different backyard chicks. They have a great selection of chicken supplies, mushroom growing kits, bedding for animals, and plants. It’s definitely worth shopping here instead of finding things cheaper online (e.g., Amazon, Chewy) to help support this amazing local small business.

I love this store. They carry a nice selection of seeds from Seed Savers.

I stopped in to ask if the store would be willing to sell me tomato plant trimmings/prunings since I only needed the leaves for a project. I was completely willing to pay, and I thought it could be a mutually beneficial arrangement since tomato plants need pruning anyway and I didn’t want usable material to go to waste. I also thought a nice local shop would be the perfect place to try my somewhat odd request. I guess I was wrong. Instead of simply saying no or offering any alternative, I was met with the pretty abrasive response “I can’t just cut up plants that I’m going to sell to someone else and give them to you.” When I responded “Okay!?” because I was genuinely confused by the tone, all I got was a smirk back. I understand if the answer was no, but the interaction felt unnecessarily dismissive and rude. A little kindness or willingness to help would’ve gone a long way… Especially after reading many other positive reviews.

This place is incredible! The entire team is knowledgeable, willing to share their tried and true wisdom and practical application steps to make things less intimidating for the barely beginner gardeners like myself. I feel so welcomed each time I come in and explore, there are always new things, along with the essentials in stock!

I LOVE my chicks from Eggplant!! We got a lavender Orpington and Americana. They are the sweetest most loving birds out of our whole flock! I will only get chicks from Eggplant going forward. The staff was so friendly and helpful at pickup too!
